Pouches for Cancer

My family and I are active each year in a Relay for Life in honor of those we love who have been lost or had to deal with cancer. My wonderful first husband and father of my 4 blessings was lost to colon cancer in 2013. This year I decided to make some Bellevue Pouches for the silent auction and to sell at our team table. I did 3 colors, purple is the color of Relay, pink for Breast cancer and blue for colon cancer. I added an embroidered ribbon to match.

Vinyl Wall Sayings

Recently I have been wanting to add some vinyl wall sayings to my empty walls and with Cricut and their amazing vinyl it is pretty darn easy.  I have done 3 projects around the house so far with a few more planned.

I added some house numbers to our front door:

I added a cute saying that I created using different free fonts to the wall you see when you walk in the front door (my plan it is to eventually get a family photo or photo's up there):

And most recently I used 2 free SVG's I found by doing a search online for laundry SVG's free on google to add some humor to the area above my laundry room door:

My daughters have requested their names for their doors and I am planning on adding labels to my clear storage containers so I guess I am not done yet!

Have you used vinyl on your walls?

Baseball Flip Flops

I’ve been a baseball mom for about 11+ years (and football and soccer and dance and...) and I’ve probably wanted to try to make these flip flops for at least 5 of those years. My son had a tournament in PA and it was just him and I going so I thought now is the time!  I packed up my supplies and enjoyed watching the games and crafting!  I was tearing apart baseballs while he caught some in the outfield!

I did not watch a tutorial on this. I just had a go at it. I think they turned out cute for my first try!  I grabbed the aballs from my son’s stash, cleaned them up with a lysol wipe, used some buttons from my stash and picked up the flip flops for $1 at Michaels!!! Had the reflections x-acto and E6000 in my supply kit!  Pretty cheap and fun craft!

More Jeep sewing, why not!

The first two weeks of June were a blur!  Life was so busy with work, family and kid activities but I had to squeeze a Father’s Day gift for my husband in there and of course it had to be Jeep related :-). I’d been wanting to try the Zepplin pouch from Sara at Sew Sweetness. It’s part of the minikins collection and I’m trying to make my way through all of them. This was perfect. My husband needed a toiletry bag and we were headed out of town for baseball all that same weekend so the gift would be useful as well!   I had this fabric in my stash but didnt’t have a good coordinating lining fabric so I had to use some flannel I had but it actually worked out well.

This is a pretty easy sew, no drop in lining which is great for me. I’m an impatient sewer/crafter so the quicker the better!

Here it is (I bought this funny glass at the Dollar Tree and I paired it with a mix and match six pack of beer along with the Zepplin pouch).

Baby dresses-melt my heart!

I’m obsessed with all things mini so of course when I found out a co-worker was having a baby girl I immediately thought mini dresses!  I did a search online and found a simple pattern from See Kate Sew and knew it’d be perfect!   The pattern is for 3-6 months so I actually reduced to size on my printer as I was looking more for newborn to 3 months.

I had recently visited a local fabric store and purchased some adorable fabrics so I knew I already had enough to get three dresses done. Unfortunately I did not have time for 3 matching diaper covers. I did get one done. In my opinion it is the cutest of cute. Just adorable!

Who doesn’t love tacos???  I mean are you kidding me!  This fabric is from Dana Willard for Art Gallery Fabrics and is in her new Day Trip line. I absolutely love it! I used Dana’s pattern for the diaper cover!

This one I made less gathered and of course is a ladybug theme from some fabric I had on hand from Joann Fabrics.

This little popsicle fabric is adorable as well!  I picked this up along with the taco fabric at a cute fabric store in Hyattsville, MD called Three Little Birds Sewing Company!

I can’t wait to see the adorable baby girl in one (or all) of these dresses!

Do you sew baby gifts?

Sewing for Boys

I just started sewing a year and a half ago and most of my projects have been for my girls but I wanted to make something special for my son for his 17th birthday. He is a huge sports fan, especially for our hometown teams, like his dad was.  I purchased fabrics from Joann Fabrics for each of his favorite teams, Washington Redskins, Washington Nationals, Washington Wizards, Washington Capitals and Maryland Terrapins. Luckily Sara over at Sew Sweetness had a great pattern that would allow me to use all 5 teams!

I used Sara’s motopouch pattern from her minikins set. I did have to increase the width of the top and bottom panels by 2 inches but it worked out perfect. I love how it turned out. My sons a typical teenager so he basically just said thanks but I’m sure he loved it.

I laminated the lining fabric using Pellon Vinyl Fuse so it will not get messy and can be wiped out!

I’d love to hear, how do you sew for the boys or men in your life?

Cute joggers and sweatshirt dress!

Back in November I visited a cute little fabric store about 40 minutes from my house. I picked up some adorable fleece lined sweatshirt fabric with great intentions and then it sat in my closet until now. I finally picked up some ribbing fabric and got up the nerve to try to sew it. I could not be more pleased with these two cute projects!  The fabric is Avalana sweat by Stof Fabrics.

For the joggers I didn’t use a pattern, just some pajama pants we already had as an outline. My daughter usually wears a uniform but had a dress down day a few weeks ago so she was SO excited to wear these to school.

I then wanted to make my other daughter something but she didn’t want to be matchy matchy with her sister. I found this adorable pattern on Tye Dye Diva’s and loved it. I will definitely use it again!

I hope you’ll stop by again tomorrow!
